Bauchi Commissioner Dies in Fatal Car Accident

Ahmed Aliyu Jalam, Bauchi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has died in a car accident while traveling to his hometown in Jalam, Dambam Local Government Area. The accident, which also claimed the life of his driver, occurred on Saturday.

Governor Bala Mohammed confirmed the tragic news in a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado. The statement expressed deep sorrow over Jalam’s sudden passing and extended condolences to his family and the people of Bauchi State. The Governor prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for Jalam and for him to be granted Aljanna Firdaus.

Ahmed Aliyu Jalam, who passed away at 60, is survived by his wives and children. He served as Commissioner for Religious Affairs in 2019 and was reappointed in 2023 as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Jalam had a long history of public service, including roles as a councilor in 1999, caretaker chairman in 2007, and executive chairman in 2008.

Jalam, fondly known as Maikankana, will be buried today, Sunday, June 2, 2024, in his hometown of Jalam, Dambam LGA, at 11:00 am.
