Benue State Government Launches Free Delivery Services at Primary Healthcare Centres
The Benue State Government has mandated that Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in its 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) deliver newborns free of charge.
Grace Wende, the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Primary Health Care Board (BSPHCB), announced this initiative in Makurdi. She also revealed the distribution of free delivery kits, known as Mama Kits, to expectant mothers.
Wende spoke at a one-day review meeting with health stakeholders and development partners at the local government level in Makurdi, the state capital. She provided an overview of the engagement aimed at strategizing programs and interventions to enhance maternal and child health services in the local councils.
During the meeting’s opening, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Yanmar Ortese, stressed the significance of the review in improving the health sector.
Ene Ochai, Manager of the Impact Project, noted that the meeting focused on a thorough analysis of primary health care facilities’ activities at the grassroots level.
It is anticipated that the review will significantly boost the Primary Health Care Centres’ capacity to reduce maternal and child mortality in the state.
