BREAKING: Fire Breaks Out at Rivers Government Secretariat

A fire outbreak has destroyed a section of the Rivers State Government secretariat located in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

According to The Cable, the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined. The affected area reportedly includes the offices of the Rivers State Pension Board.

This incident occurs amid heightened political activity in the state. Just weeks ago, President Bola Tinubu reinstated suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly following a prolonged political crisis.

It also follows Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, amid rising tensions in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the extent of the damage or potential casualties.
