Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged to maintain peace in the state while protecting his supporters who stand for truth.

Speaking to the press after a State Security Council meeting with security agency heads at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Fubara emphasized that he will not tolerate any attempts to arrest his supporters on false charges.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara reaffirmed the law’s stance on the tenure extension for elected local government chairmen.

“I am aware of a plan to arrest some of our supporters,” Fubara said. “This time, you must go through me to arrest them because they have done nothing wrong. They stand for truth. If it costs us our lives to uphold the truth, so be it. I will lead that cause.”

He continued, “To the peace-loving people of Rivers State: the law is clear—there is no extension of tenure. The court has confirmed this. Anyone suggesting otherwise should stop because we need peace in this state. We will do whatever it takes to ensure peace and order.”

Fubara noted that the State Security Council meeting was called due to rising tensions following the expiration of local government chairmen’s tenures.
