Court Orders Kano Government to Pay N10 Million to Deposed Emir Bayero for Rights Violation
A Federal High Court in Kano has ordered the Kano State Government to pay N10 million in damages to deposed Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, for violating his fundamental rights.
The court, which confirmed its jurisdiction to hear Bayero’s rights violation suit, also directed the Kano State Government to ensure the deposed emir’s right to movement and personal liberty.
In a ruling on Friday, Justice Simon Amobeda of Federal High Court 3 stated that resolving the issue of the court’s jurisdiction was essential before addressing the main matter. He emphasized that without jurisdiction, any proceeding is null.
Justice Amobeda declared the court’s jurisdiction over the case, asserting that the matter involved the abuse of Bayero’s fundamental human rights, which the Constitution grants the Federal High Court the authority to adjudicate. Bayero is seeking, among other reliefs, N5 billion in damages from the Kano State Government for the violation of his fundamental human rights.
