A Federal High Court in Ibadan has sentenced two men, Abiodun Oguntosin and Rasaq Agboola, to four years in prison each for aiding and abetting terrorism.

The convicts faced two counts: aiding and abetting terrorism, and possession of live ammunition.

In delivering the judgment, Justice Ekerete Akpan noted that Oguntosin and Agboola were convicted based on overwhelming evidence provided by the Department of State Services (DSS) and their guilty pleas.

“I hope that the convicts have learned their lessons the hard way. The court will not hesitate to apply the full wrath of the law if they are caught again,” said Justice Akpan. “To serve as a deterrent to others, each convict is sentenced to four years in prison. The live ammunition and trucks found in their possession are forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria through the DSS.”

Earlier, DSS Prosecution Counsel T.A. Nurudeen informed the court that the convicts committed the offenses on April 8 in Palupo-Itesiwaju, Akure South, Ondo State. Oguntosin and Agboola were apprehended by DSS operatives while transporting 60,250 rounds of 32mm cartridges and 149mm Dina Gaza and Red Star brand cartridges in two trucks.
