Delta Correctional Center beefs up security as inmate escape
Security measures at the Sapele Correctional Centre in Delta State have been intensified after an inmate named Paul Michael managed to escape.
Reports from NIGERIA NEWS 247 Metro indicate that Michael was accused of the murder of Kelly Onojaiyefe, a furniture apprentice in Oghara town, Ethiope West Local Government Area.
The accused mysteriously fled over the weekend, just a day after the new Controller of State Corrections, Mr. Raymond Neagu, assumed his position.
The command’s spokesperson, Mr. Ikechukwu Iloba, confirmed the escape in Asaba on Wednesday and expressed bewilderment at how it occurred despite stringent security measures at the facility. The Controller is deeply concerned about this incident and has promptly initiated investigations into the matter.
The Controller General Zone G has initiated a thorough investigation into the escape incident and will not overlook the matter.
He has personally appointed a team to look into the causes of the escape, with himself as the team’s chairman. Anyone found responsible will face appropriate sanctions as directed by Controller General Zone G.
Iloba assured that a search team had been dispatched to apprehend the escapee at any time and place, emphasizing that there was no need to worry.
He mentioned that the squadron commander had been briefed and equipped to secure the center until the investigation concludes.
