Edo Government and BEDC to Meter 500,000 Homes

The Edo State Government, in collaboration with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), is preparing to meter around 500,000 homes across the state.

The Commissioner for Mining, Energy, Oil and Gas, Enaholo Ojiefo, made this announcement on Saturday, noting that the initiative will begin on August 13 to tackle the issue of estimated billing.

Speaking after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with BEDC management, the commissioner stated that the project will encompass all three senatorial districts.

He explained that each home will receive a government-subsidized meter, which includes an insurance policy. Meters are expected to be delivered to subscribers within 10 days of payment.

The commissioner also informed that subscribers can access the payment portal starting August 14 and assured them of prompt meter delivery.

He emphasized, “The Edo State Government, in partnership with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, will meter approximately 500,000 homes across the state.”

“The exercise, beginning on August 13, aims to eliminate the issue of estimated billing and will cover all three senatorial districts.”

Representing the BEDC management at the signing ceremony were the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Kings Akuma, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Deolu Ijose.
