Fatal Clash Between Soldiers and Tricyclists Leaves Three Dead, Several Injured in Yobe
Three individuals lost their lives, and several others were injured when a Nigerian Army patrol vehicle collided with a Keke Napep rider, resulting in injuries to the driver and passengers.
According to an eyewitness, Adamu Hassan, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at Garin Alkali market, near Gashua, the administrative center of the Bade Local Government Area of the state.
Following the incident, members of the Keke Napep association organized protests in various locations, obstructing the main road to Gashua. In response, angered Army personnel reportedly fired shots indiscriminately, resulting in injuries to some protesters who were later taken to Specialist Hospital, Gashua, for treatment.
A source from the hospital reported receiving several casualties, including fatalities, but was unable to provide an exact count. When approached, the Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, Ibrahim Babagana, confirmed three deaths and multiple injuries in the confrontation, assuring efforts to pacify the situation.
The Commander of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, had not issued a statement at the time of this report. Gashua is situated 187 kilometers away from the state capital, Damaturu.
