Flood displaces 1,664 persons in four Sokoto communities
Approximately 1,664 people have been displaced due to flooding in four communities within the Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
In a statement, Abdullahi Ghani, the Information Officer for the Sokoto Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), reported that the flooding was triggered by heavy rainfall on July 17, 2024. This flood not only displaced residents but also destroyed several hectares of farmland.
Ghani also noted that a significant number of livestock, including sheep and goats, were lost in the flood. The affected communities include Dantudu, Balakozo, Gidan Tudu, and Tsite.
According to the SEMA spokesman, 62 houses and 71 households in Dan Tudu village were impacted, while 33 houses and 48 households were affected in Balakozo village (Tsitse Ward). Similarly, 38 houses and 52 households in Gidan Tudu village and 68 houses and 89 households in Tsite town were affected by the flood, resulting in a total of 1,664 people being displaced.
