The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, February 6, 2026, claimed the life of a resident identified as Emmanuel Matthew. Several others were injured, while homes and other properties were set ablaze.

In a statement issued on Saturday, BYM National Publicity Secretary Rwang Tengwong said information from residents indicated that the heavily armed attackers stormed the community around 1:00 a.m., advancing from the Werre-Lugere and Mahanga axes of the district before unleashing terror on civilians.

Tengwong expressed deep concern that the attack occurred despite a prior security alert warning of possible assaults on communities within Fan District and parts of Vom in Jos South Local Government Area.

“This tragic incident occurred despite a security alert issued at about 8:58 p.m. on February 5, 2026, which listed Rapyam and other communities as potential targets,” he said.

He lamented what he described as the persistent failure of security agencies to act swiftly on credible intelligence, noting that such lapses continue to result in avoidable loss of lives.

“The BYM strongly calls on the Federal Government, the Plateau State Government, Operation Enduring Peace, the Police, the DSS, and other security agencies to urgently deploy adequate security personnel, intensify patrols, and adopt proactive measures to safeguard lives and property across Plateau State,” Tengwong added.
