Governor Abdulrazaq Approves New Minimum Wage Implementation from October 2024
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has approved the payment of the new N70,000 minimum wage starting in October 2024. The announcement follows the Federal Government’s recent directive regarding the revised wage.
In a statement signed by the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Hauwa Nuru, it was revealed that the new wage structure will apply across Kwara State’s public service, including workers in all 16 local government areas.
The decision, which includes consequential adjustments to salary structures, was reached after a successful meeting between the state government, the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), and representatives from the organised private sector.
Nuru, who co-chaired the minimum wage committee, thanked Governor Abdulrazaq for allowing the committee full autonomy to reach an agreement that benefits all parties. She praised the governor’s proactive and worker-friendly approach, noting that this swift implementation reflects his dedication to the welfare of public servants and the broader vision for sustainable development in Kwara.
She also commended the collaborative efforts of the labour unions, whose partnership with the government made this achievement possible. Nuru emphasized that the new minimum wage is a vital step toward easing the economic challenges faced by workers and demonstrates the state’s commitment to prioritizing their welfare.
