Group Calls for Justice for DELSU Student Shot by Police in Delta

Miss Hilda Rukevwe John, who was wounded by police gunfire in Delta State, is currently receiving treatment at Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara.

Reports indicate that she was shot by policemen associated with a VIP in front of Oria-Abraka Secondary School on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a group known as Initiative for Social Rights Concerns And Advancements (ISRCA), also called ‘No Justice, No Peace Initiative,’ has urged Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Surajudeen Olufemi Abaniwonda, to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that the responsible police officers are held accountable.

ISRCA National Coordinator, Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, specifically demanded the immediate arrest of the policemen involved in the shooting.

“The students and members of civil society will not hesitate to lead protests until the police officers are apprehended and brought to justice. We will not rest until justice is served,” the group stated.

In response, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the officer who fired the shot had been identified and taken into custody.

Miss Hilda Rukevwe John is a final year student in the Department of Physiology at Delta State University, Abraka, where she was scheduled to complete her studies on Monday, as reported by NIGERIA NEWS 247.
