Gunmen attack military checkpoint in Ebonyi, casualties recorded

Armed assailants have targeted a military checkpoint along the Amangwu route of the Amasiri-Owutu-Edde highway within the Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

The Ebonyi Police Command verified this incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday. According to DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Police Public Relations Officer, the assault took place in the early morning hours of Friday.

He mentioned that reports from Owutu Police Division indicate that a group of criminals struck a military checkpoint that morning.

It remains unclear whether there were any injuries or fatalities. The attack was reportedly executed by suspected gunmen using motorcycles, he further noted.
