Highway Between Ebonyi and Enugu Deserted Amid Kidnapper Threats

The security situation along the Idodo boundary axis of Ebonyi and the Enugu Expressway has severely worsened due to the rampant criminal activities of kidnappers who are targeting travelers on the road.

As a result of this alarming trend, many commuters have opted to halt their journeys through this route. The escalating insecurity has effectively halted movements to and from Ebonyi State.

An undisclosed source highlighted the unpredictable nature of the kidnappers, who can lie in wait for extended periods only to strike suddenly and without warning.

Nicholas Nworie, a trader based in Ebonyi, disclosed that he had to cancel an important meeting in Enugu over the weekend due to the increasing incidents of kidnappings along the road. He expressed frustration at the apparent lack of concern from the governments of Enugu and Ebonyi regarding the situation.

Reports of recent attacks further emphasize the perilous state of the road. A resident recounted a recent incident where travelers resorted to prayer as they approached Idodo, highlighting the pervasive fear among road users.

The kidnappers’ brazenness is evident as they carry out abductions even during daylight hours. Despite efforts to combat their activities, including recent incidents where drivers alerted others to the danger, the threat persists throughout the day, disrupting normal travel patterns. Urgent intervention is needed to address this escalating crisis.
