The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) enforcement team earlier today apprehended five individuals for illegally dumping refuse along the median of the busy Ago Palace Way in Okota. The arrests were made during a routine patrol aimed at enforcing environmental regulations and maintaining sanitation standards across the city.

According to LAWMA officials, the offenders were caught red-handed while indiscriminately disposing of waste—a practice known to contribute to flooding, traffic congestion, and the deterioration of urban infrastructure. The agency emphasized that such actions are violations of Lagos State sanitation laws and warned that offenders will face prosecution and other legal consequences.

This latest enforcement action underscores the persistent challenge of illegal waste disposal in some parts of Lagos, despite ongoing public awareness campaigns. LAWMA reiterated the availability of designated waste collection services and urged residents to make proper use of them.

Local residents welcomed the arrests, describing indiscriminate dumping as a long-standing problem in the Okota area. Many called for more frequent patrols and the installation of surveillance cameras at known dumping hotspots to deter future violations.
