On Tuesday, the police arraigned 24-year-old Adekunle Elijah before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on charges of defiling and abducting a 14-year-old girl. The defendant, whose address is unknown, is facing a three-count charge of abduction, defilement, and unlawful touching.

Prosecutor Inspector Ayodele Adeosun informed the court that the defendant committed the offenses on July 11 at around 11 p.m. near Transformer, Agadangba, Ajara, Badagry, Lagos. According to Adeosun, the defendant abducted the 14-year-old girl, unlawfully touched her, removed her underwear, and had sexual intercourse with her. These actions, he stated, contravene sections 268, 261, and 264 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like amount. Adekomaiya also ordered the defendant to deposit N200,000 with the Chief Registrar and adjourned the case to September 9 for mention.
