NSCDC Arrests Suspected Transformer Vandals
The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three suspects for allegedly vandalizing transformers and electric cables.
The command’s spokesman, DSC Buhari Hamisu, shared this information with newsmen while parading the suspects in Katsina on Thursday. He reported that on July 4, 2024, the Bakori Local Government Area (LGA) Division received a written complaint about vandalism and theft.
“Shortly after receiving the complaint, the special Anti-vandal team attached to the division took action and apprehended two suspects,” Hamisu explained. The suspects are Usman Usman, 29, from Unguwan Tofa quarters of Bakori LGA, and Usman Lawal from Mai Ruwa Road in Funtua LGA. Usman Usman is identified as the primary suspect, specializing in vandalizing public infrastructure and theft.
During the investigation, Usman Usman confessed to the crimes and revealed that he conspired with Aliyu Umar, who is currently at large. The suspects admitted to vandalizing a transformer in Bakori LGA. Usman Usman also disclosed that he and Usman Lawal sold the stolen items to individuals named Wanka and Kolom, who are also at large.
Hamisu added that the command recovered a 350mm up-riser transformer cable and a 75mm copper wire from the suspects.
