Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2023 general elections, has paid a visit to those affected by the arson attack at a mosque in Kano.
Upon his arrival in Kano on Sunday, Obi headed directly from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where several victims are currently being treated.
In his speech, he expressed deep horror and condemnation, stating, It is tragic that such events occur in our country today. No one can understand why this young boy would commit such an act against his own family and society.
We stand united in denouncing this behavior towards the community. I am here to demonstrate my solidarity and support for their care efforts, as well as to commend the hospital management for their work while also condemning this senseless act of violence.
He expressed his condolences to the government and people of Kano, calling on all Nigerians to unite against such senseless violence. According to Nigeria News 247 reporters, a family dispute over inheritance resulted in tragedy and loss of life in the usually peaceful community of Larabar-Albasawa, located on the outskirts of Gezawa, the main town of Gezawa LGA in Kano State.
The perpetrator, Shafiu Abubakar, allegedly ignited a mosque during the early morning (Subh) prayer at approximately 5:30 am. He reportedly doused the mosque with petrol, locked the door, and set it ablaze, trapping around 40 worshippers inside.
