Ogbodo Urges Governor Mbah to Implement New Minimum Wage for Enugu Workers
Ray Kene Ogbodo, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in Enugu State’s 2023 election, has urged Governor Peter Mbah to implement the new minimum wage of N70,000.
In a press statement released by his media aide, Mr. Azubuike Akam, on Friday, Ogbodo reviewed Mbah’s 15 months in office. He praised the governor for his innovative leadership and significant projects but emphasized that workers deserve the immediate implementation of the new minimum wage to reflect the current economic challenges.
Ogbodo commended the governor for his ambitious Mega Asphalt Plant project, calling it a groundbreaking initiative for the state. He expressed his support for policies aimed at alleviating poverty and improving living conditions in Enugu.
“I believe it is the right moment to both commend and critically evaluate the governor’s performance,” Ogbodo stated. “The Mega Asphalt Plant project is extraordinary and shows that Mbah is committed to making a significant impact in Enugu.”
On the issue of minimum wage, he said, “I urge the Governor to implement the new minimum wage of N70,000 to help workers cope with the rising cost of living. The economic situation has worsened since our campaign, and now is the time to act.”
Ogbodo, a proponent of social capitalism, believes that the wage increase will help lift people out of poverty and improve their quality of life. He also expressed hopes for a diversified economy in Enugu, modern infrastructure, advancements in agriculture, renewable energy investment, and enhanced transportation systems.
“I look forward to seeing Enugu evolve into a hub for private investment with a focus on improving the lives of its residents,” he concluded.
