People Uninterested in Uzodinma’s Supreme Court Victory: Group Explains Lack of Jubilation
The Imo State chapter of the National Youth Alliance (NYA) has shed light on the absence of jubilation following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of Governor Hope Uzodinma’s election victory.
According to the group, the people already anticipated the outcome of the judgment. In a press statement by its State Chairman, Chinonso Uba, the NYA cited hardship and insecurity as key reasons for the public’s indifference towards the ruling.
The group also stated that the people have lost interest in the political landscape under Uzodinma’s administration. “If there was any judgment regarding the 2023 Imo gubernatorial election on August 23, 2024, Imolites were not aware,” the statement read.
It added that the governor’s detachment from the state and indifference to the well-being of its residents have led to widespread apathy. “The governor is not in Imo, doesn’t care about Ndi Imo, whether they are dead or alive.”
The statement further noted that only members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were aware of the Supreme Court ruling, but even they face the same economic struggles as the general population. The group emphasized that if the public had truly cared about the outcome, Owerri’s streets would have erupted in celebration. Instead, the state remained silent, reflecting dissatisfaction with the governor’s leadership.
The NYA also highlighted the lack of accountability regarding local government allocations and insufficient infrastructural development as factors contributing to the muted response to the court ruling.
