A group identified as the Concerned Fulani Residents of Riyom LGA has accused the Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State, Hon. Sati Shuwa, of marginalizing the Fulani and Muslim communities in his recent political appointments.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its chairman, Abdullahi Yusuf, the group expressed disappointment over what it described as the “lopsided” distribution of political appointments. According to the statement, out of 235 Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs) appointed by the council chairman, only six are Muslims and Fulani.

Titled “Concerns Over Marginalization of Fulani and Muslim Community in Appointments in Riyom LGA Amidst Escalating Insecurity,” the group condemned the development as an act of political exclusion that deepens existing divisions and threatens local peace and cohesion.

“It is both unfair and unjust that in a democratic system, where all citizens contribute to governance, one community is deliberately sidelined in public appointments,” the statement read.

The group emphasized that the appointments come at a time when the local government is dealing with severe insecurity, and instead of fostering inclusion and trust, the chairman’s decisions have further alienated a key segment of the population.

They also criticized the number of appointments, suggesting that public funds would have been better used to improve security and tackle the root causes of violence in the area.

“We view this gross imbalance as a deliberate act of political discrimination which undermines unity, peacebuilding, and inclusive governance,” the group stated.

They called on the Plateau State Government, civil society organizations, and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene and ensure that the appointments are reviewed to reflect equitable representation for the Fulani and Muslim communities.

The group concluded by stressing that inclusive governance is essential for sustaining peace, equity, and harmony among all ethnic and religious groups in Riyom LGA.
