Plateau News: Governor Mutfwang Enforces 24-Hour Curfew
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has implemented a 24-hour curfew in the Jos North and Bukuru metropolis.
The governor explained that the decision was necessary to enhance public safety and maintain order. This information was shared in a press statement by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.
The statement read: “In a decisive effort to enhance the security of lives and maintain public order, Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jos/Bukuru Metropolis, effective from 12 midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.”
The decision followed consultations with state security agencies after assessing the actions of individuals who used the nationwide protest as an opportunity to commit crimes against innocent citizens. Mutfwang noted that these individuals, armed with daggers, machetes, and other weapons, had broken into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, stealing food and valuable items.
The governor emphasized that the curfew is in the best interest of all residents and urged compliance for the safety and well-being of the community. He instructed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly throughout Jos/Bukuru Metropolis.
He also warned those intending to cause further harm to desist immediately or face legal consequences.
The governor called on security agencies to stay vigilant and proactive in preventing any disruptions to law and order.
Governor Mutfwang expressed his appreciation to the people of Plateau State, particularly the clergy and imams, for their steadfast support of the government’s policies and cooperation during the nationwide protest. He praised their commitment to peace and unity.
“The peaceful conduct of our people before, during, and after the nationwide protest is commendable. I encourage everyone to continue fostering this culture of peace as we work together for a united and progressive Plateau,” Mutfwang added.
