Plateau Pilgrim Dies in Mecca from Diabetic Complications

A pilgrim from Plateau State, Hajiya Jamila Muhammad, has passed away while on pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. She died on Monday, June 2, 2025, reportedly due to complications related to diabetes.

The news was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Daiyabu Dauda, and made available to journalists in Jos.

“With a heavy heart and total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of one of our female pilgrims, Hajiya Jamila Muhammad,” the statement read. “She died on Monday at the King Abdul’aziz Hospital in Mecca, following diabetic complications, according to attending doctors.”

Dauda stated that upon receiving the report, he immediately instructed the medical team to take all necessary steps for her treatment, in line with directives from Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang.

The Executive Secretary expressed condolences to the government of Plateau State, the deceased’s family, and her loved ones, describing the loss as a great tragedy.

“We pray that Allah forgives her shortcomings and grants her the highest place in Jannah (paradise),” Dauda said.

He further disclosed that the Amirul Hajj, along with other officials and the deceased’s relatives, attended her funeral prayer at the Grand Mosque in Mecca. She was laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
