Police Foil Terror Attack, Neutralise IED in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully neutralised an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly planted by suspected terrorists along the Danjibga–Kunchin Kalgo road in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.

The operation was carried out on Thursday by a joint security team comprising officers from the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the military’s EOD unit, alongside other security personnel.

In a statement released on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the explosive device was discovered and safely rendered harmless at about 8:00 a.m. using standard render-safe procedures.

Abubakar explained that the pressure-plate IED was professionally neutralised, with its components recovered and taken for forensic examination.

He added that a comprehensive sweep and technical assessment of the area were conducted, confirming that the route is now safe for commuters and residents.

The police command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing security operations across the state.
