Rainstorm Claims Life of Child, Destroys 50 Houses in Yobe [PHOTOS]

A torrential rainstorm accompanied by violent wind has resulted in the death of a 7-year-old boy in Tsohon Garin Nangere, located in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Reports from the community indicate that 20 people were seriously injured and about 50 houses and shops were destroyed by the heavy rain.

The incident occurred today around 9 AM while residents were engaged in their daily activities.

Meanwhile, the Yobe Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), has commenced a state-level workshop on community engagement and sensitization regarding flood preparedness. The workshop also aims to develop the 2024 emergency preparedness and contingency plan.

The engagement’s objective is to share local response mechanisms, connect community-based strategies to state-level efforts, and develop a community-based emergency preparedness and contingency plan.
