On Tuesday at around 5:30 p.m., tragedy struck in Ribang (Mbang) village, Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, as six students lost their lives in the Mbang river.

The victims, who were identified as Manasseh Monday (16 yrs), Musa John (16 yrs), Pius David (15 yrs), Monday Ayuba (16 yrs), David Danlami (19 yrs), and Yahuza Audu (16 yrs), had been returning from a Junior WAEC exam at Government Secondary School Fadan Chawai.

Pastor Simon Ishaku, the National Public Relations Officer of Ribang Development Association, tragically reported to NIGERIA NEWS 247 over the phone on Wednesday that three bodies have been found and laid to rest with great sorrow.

He further revealed that three individuals are still unaccounted for, as efforts to retrieve them from the river have proved unsuccessful.

The school children set off from their homes with hope and excitement, while their parents headed to the farm, anticipating a joyful reunion after completing their tasks for the day.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck as they met an unexpected demise. The Mbang river has long been a perilous obstacle for our community, requiring an arduous 8-kilometer journey to reach essential services like schools and hospitals.

Urgently, we implore the Federal Government, Governor Uba Sani, Senator Sunday Katung, and our House of Representatives members to provide much-needed assistance in building schools, hospitals, roads, and bridges to alleviate the hardships faced by our community. This plea comes from Simon on behalf of our community.

ASP Mansir Hassan, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kaduna State, was unresponsive to attempts to reach him via calls and text messages from our Correspondent at the time of reporting.

The Zonal Coordinator of Zone One for the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, Mubarak Muhammad, mentioned that he would verify the incident and provide feedback to our correspondent when contacted.
