The Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman II, has called on residents of Dass Local Government Area in Bauchi State to halt indiscriminate tree felling as part of efforts to mitigate climate change impacts.

Emir Bilyaminu Othman II made this plea following a symbolic tree planting event held at the Dass Emirate Council to mark the 2024 Great Green Wall Day. He underscored the community’s role in combating desertification and other environmental challenges.

He stated, “Protecting the environment is our responsibility. We urge our people to cease cutting down trees and instead focus on planting them to preserve our environment.”

Meanwhile, Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed, the state’s Great Green Wall focal person, highlighted the need for communities to minimize charcoal use and embrace alternative cooking methods like CNG cooking gas cylinders. She emphasized the agency’s commitment to promoting safer environmental practices in line with federal initiatives.

The 2024 Great Green Wall celebration included the planting of economically valuable trees across various government departments, religious institutions, and traditional bodies in Bauchi State, as reported by NIGERIA NEWS 247.
