The National Consultative Front (NCFront), in partnership with the Labour and Civil Society Front (LCSF), has announced plans to launch a nationwide campaign focused on pressing electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move was part of resolutions reached at a leadership consultative meeting hosted by NCFront in Lagos over the weekend, following outcomes from the recently concluded National Constitutional Summit organized by The Patriots and the Nigeria Political Summit Group (NPSG).

In a statement signed by Hamisu San Turaki, spokesperson for NCFront, the coalition stressed the urgent need to overhaul Nigeria’s electoral framework to restore credibility and public confidence in the democratic process.

To lead this electoral reform movement, a group of eminent Nigerians — regarded as leaders of conscience — have been enlisted. They include:

  • Prof. Pat Utomi

  • Prof. Attahiru Jega

  • Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN

  • Barr. Femi Falana, SAN

  • Dr. Oby Ezekwesili

  • Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

  • Comrade Joe Ajaero (President, NLC)

  • Amb. Nkoyo Toyo

  • Prophet Isah El Buba

  • Chief Imam Ahmad

As part of the initiative, the group will launch a new political platform called the Alliance for Defence of Democracy (ADD) on October 1st. The ADD is designed to serve as a mobilization and advocacy vehicle to drive the nationwide campaign for electoral reforms.

The official launch of the campaign will coincide with a major national dialogue on electoral reforms, where NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero and other prominent figures will address the nation on the way forward.

According to NCFront, the aim is to rally Nigerians at home and abroad to push for constitutional and legislative reforms that will strengthen democratic governance and ensure free, fair, and credible elections by 2027.
