Adamawa State Govt Approves Over N23 Billion for Key Infrastructure Projects
The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved over N23 billion for major infrastructure developments, including the Phase 2 construction of the Adamawa State International Sports Complex in Yola and the installation of solar-powered streetlights across the city.
The approvals were made during the council meeting on Wednesday, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri at the Government House, Yola.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Pella, explained that Phase 2 of the sports complex is divided into five lots at a cost of N3.6 billion, adding that the first phase of the project is progressing smoothly toward completion.
The council also approved:
-
Procurement and installation of solar-powered streetlights along Galadima Aminu Way, Gimba Dual Carriageway, Bekaji Dual Carriageway, Mubi Road, and the A.A. Lawan Flyover in Jimeta, at N1.3 billion.
-
Construction, rehabilitation, and expansion of Abdullahi Bashir Waziri Street, Bekaji Road, Popule Street and links, and GGSS Yola internal roads, costing N13 billion.
-
Additional works at the Jimeta Ultra-Modern Shopping Mall Project, including road networks, drainage, landscaping, and solar streetlights, at N5.6 billion.
-
Consultancy services for design and post-design of perimeter fences and gatehouses for newly created chiefdoms, and construction of the Adamawa Traditional Rulers Secretariat Complex, at N212 million.
Dr. Pella recalled that the state inaugurated the Jimeta stadium complex in May 2024, marking Adamawa’s first modern stadium. The ongoing works aim to expand and complete the facility, providing a venue for national teams to host home matches in Adamawa, rather than relying on Gombe.
“The era of going to neighbouring states to play games is over,” Governor Fintiri declared during the stadium’s foundation-laying over a year ago. “I want to sit here, munching my popcorn, and watch Adamawa United host and beat their opponents in this stadium.”
