Aloy Ejimakor, Nnamdi Kanu’s lead counsel, condemns Nigerian government for imprisoning him
Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has strongly denounced the Nigerian government for what he describes as the unjust imprisonment of his client based solely on his beliefs and ideas.
In a statement posted on X, Ejimakor emphasized the injustice of imprisoning Kanu for expressing his thoughts and advocating for his ideals. He asserted, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a victim of false imprisonment by the Nigerian State. Period.”
He criticized the government’s actions as an attempt to suppress Kanu’s ideas through unlawful incarceration rather than for any legitimate criminal offense. Ejimakor called for continuous advocacy and support for Kanu, emphasizing the importance of reminding him daily that he is not forgotten.
Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention since June 2021, following his rearrest and extradition from Kenya to Nigeria. Despite court orders granting him bail, the Nigerian government has refused to release him. Kanu faces charges related to his activism for the realization of Biafra.
