Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to a public test of popularity—proposing a walk with him from Abuja to Port Harcourt without security escorts.

Amaechi issued the challenge during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, where he criticized Wike, his political rival and successor as Rivers State governor.

“Let the Minister of the FCT come. Let’s take a walk from the airport to Port Harcourt—no police, no army, nothing, just the two of us,” Amaechi said. “I don’t know why he doesn’t respect people like us. I am older, and I brought him up in politics. Who is he?”

The remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the two political figures, both of whom have dominated Rivers State politics for over a decade.

Amaechi also confirmed during the interview that he has formally resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating he submitted his resignation on Tuesday.
