Atiku Reacts as Senate Reopens Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Office
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has responded to the reopening of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office at the National Assembly.
NIGERIA NEWS 247 earlier reported that the Senate, through the Deputy Director of the Sergeant-At-Arms, Alabi Adedeji, on Tuesday unsealed Suite 2.05 in the Senate wing — the office of the Kogi Central senator. This development paves the way for her return to legislative functions after a months-long suspension.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office had been locked since March 6, 2025, following her controversial suspension from the Senate.
Reacting in a statement, Atiku praised the move and emphasized the power of unity in resisting oppression.
“It is reassuring that the voice of reason has finally prevailed with the unsealing of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office,” he said. “Although the valuable time lost for the people of Kogi Central cannot be regained, this struggle was not in vain. It has once again shown that when we stand united, we can defeat tyranny.”
Atiku also used the opportunity to criticize President Bola Tinubu, particularly in relation to recent political developments in Rivers State. He accused the president of undermining Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
“The suspension of Governor Simi Fubara, lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly, the illegal suspension of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, and the use of state apparatus to target opposition figures are not isolated events,” he said.
Atiku warned that such actions represent a broader pattern of political suppression and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant in defense of democracy.
