Bagudu: Ministers Earn Less Than N1m Monthly, Uncertain About Allowances
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, revealed that he and his fellow ministers earn less than N1 million per month in salary. During an interview on Channels Television, Bagudu mentioned that he is unsure about the specific allowances for ministers. He explained that the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) sets their salaries and wages.
Bagudu, a former Governor of Kebbi State, also noted that while he is provided with an official vehicle, he prefers driving his Camry. He emphasized his desire to lead by example as Minister of Budget.
“Ministers, like all public officials, have their payments determined by the RMFAC. I have one official vehicle, but I don’t use it because I enjoy driving my Camry. As Minister of Budget, I want to set an example,” he said.
Bagudu acknowledged that the cost of governance is concerning and emphasized his awareness of how the nation’s finances are allocated. When questioned about ministerial allowances, he stated, “I don’t know of any specific allowance for ministers, but I might be wrong. This information is published, and I can share it with you as it is determined by RMFAC; there is nothing extra for ministers.”
