The Bauchi State Police Command reported that at least 2,077 suspects were arrested in connection with various crimes committed within and outside the state between July 2023 and July 2024. The Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a press statement on Saturday.

He attributed this achievement to the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa, who assumed duty on July 6, 2023. Wakil noted that Bauchi State faces numerous security challenges, including kidnapping, armed banditry, cattle rustling, thuggery, and rape. Crime hotspots include Lame Burra Forest in Ningi LGA, Balmo Forest in Ganjuwa LGA, and Yankari Forest in Alkaleri LGA, which harbor criminal elements.

Upon taking office, CP Musa implemented proactive measures involving coordination with various stakeholders, security agencies, vigilante groups, religious and traditional institutions, and youth groups. These efforts have gradually helped in combating crime in the state.

Wakil detailed that the Command recorded 1,148 cases and arrested 2,077 suspects for various crimes within the year. Major achievements included the arrest of 212 suspects for 100 cases of armed robbery and 271 suspects for 136 cases of culpable homicide. Other arrests included 157 suspects for 126 cases of rape/indecent assault and 159 suspects for 67 cases of kidnapping.

The police spokesperson emphasized the importance of public cooperation in achieving these successes and urged the public to view security as a collective responsibility. He highlighted various crime prevention measures implemented by the Command, including visibility policing, community partnerships, raids on black spots, and intelligence-led operations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, called on all residents to support the police in their efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
