Commuters on the Keffi-Abuja expressway have been stranded as military officers have barricaded the highway to conduct stop-and-search operations on vehicles entering the nation’s capital.

The unexpected blockade, set up at Sani Abacha barracks before the popular AYA roundabout, caught many off guard.

This has resulted in a gridlock extending as far as Nyanya Bridge, over 12 kilometers from the checkpoint.

Many civil servants and traders living outside the city center in areas such as Nyanya, Karu, Maraba, and Masaka have also been left stranded.

Reports indicate that after hours of standstill, many frustrated commuters were forced to return home.

This incident comes just three days before the planned nationwide protest against economic hardship in Nigeria, scheduled to begin on August 1. The protest aims to draw attention to the rising cost of living and economic challenges faced by many Nigerians.
