The Court of Appeal, led by Justice Joseph O.K. Oyewole, has reversed the decision of the Lokoja High Court in a contempt case involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, brought forth by Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
In response to the EFCC’s motion for a stay of execution and proceedings in the contempt case currently before the Kogi State High Court, the Court of Appeal has granted the motion ex parte. This decision effectively suspends any further action in the contempt case until a later date. The court has scheduled the hearing of the motion on notice for May 20, 2024.
Additionally, the Court of Appeal has ordered substituted service of all legal documents pertaining to the case to be posted at Yahaya Bello’s last known address in Abuja.
This ruling by the appellate court marks a pause in the contempt proceedings against the EFCC and its chairman. It also green-lights the appeal lodged by the anti-graft agency against the initial ruling of the Lokoja High Court.
The case is officially registered as EFCC vs. Alhaji Yahaya Bello, with Appeal No: CA/ABJ/CV/413/2024.
