BREAKING: NLC and TUC suspends strike for one week
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have ‘relaxed’ the ongoing strike action for one week.
This is to allow the tripartite body – government, employers, and labour – to agree on a new national wage floor within the next one week.
The organs meeting, which ended at 11:31 am, this morning, was jointly presided over by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Festus Isifo.
After the resolution to relax the ongoing strike for a period of one week, the organized labour then proceeded to the Nicon luxury to continue its engagement with the tripartite committee.
Both unions downed tools on Monday to register their grievances over the hike in electricity tariff and lack of consensus on the new minimum wage.
The development ground activities in the critical sectors of the economy with schools, businesses, hospitals, and airports shut. The national grid was also shut down, throwing the nation into darkness.
More details later.
