BREAKING: Oba Rashidi Ladoja Crowned 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland

Former governor of Oyo State, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has been formally crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in a traditional ceremony steeped in history and cultural significance.

The coronation rites began at the Labosinde Compound in Oja’ba, where Oba Ladoja received the symbolic Akoko leaf, marking his acceptance of the ancient stool. He was later officially crowned at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area.

A separate presentation of the staff and instruments of office by Governor Seyi Makinde is scheduled to take place at the iconic Mapo Hall later today.

NIGERIA NEWS 247 gathered that Governor Makinde, who was on his annual vacation, interrupted his leave to personally attend the historic event, which drew a host of dignitaries including former Ogun State governor Senator Gbenga Daniel, traditional leaders, and high-ranking officials. Security was notably tight across key areas of the city.

Oba Ladoja’s ascension follows the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on July 7, 2025.
