Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has returned to her office at the National Assembly following its reopening by the Sergeant-at-Arms, accompanied by a joint team of security operatives.

Her return on Tuesday sparked mild drama at the National Assembly complex. Dressed in black and accompanied by her supporters, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived around 2:30 p.m., shortly after the official announcement that her office—sealed for several months—had been reopened.

Upon arrival, however, she faced initial resistance from some security personnel who attempted to block her from entering the main building.

Although the Senate is currently on recess and scheduled to resume plenary on October 7, 2025, the reopening of her office signals that the embattled lawmaker may soon return to full legislative duties.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 for alleged violations of Senate standing rules. Her suspension drew sharp criticism from civil society groups and opposition politicians, who viewed the move as politically motivated.

In July, she approached the courts in an attempt to overturn the suspension and made an unsuccessful bid to resume legislative duties.

The controversy surrounding her suspension was further heightened after she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment—a claim that generated significant public attention.

With the Senate’s plenary session set to resume in October, all eyes will be on how the leadership addresses her status and whether she will be officially reinstated.
