The Council of State has approved the exercise of presidential prerogative of mercy for 175 individuals, following a recommendation presented by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

The approval was granted during the Council’s meeting held on Thursday at the State House in Abuja.

While the complete list of beneficiaries has not yet been officially released, sources at the meeting confirmed that posthumous pardons were granted to two prominent historical figures: Herbert Macaulay, a pioneer nationalist, and Major-General Mamman Vatsa (retd.), a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under the Babangida regime.
