Binance executive slumps in court

During Thursday’s trial of the detained Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan, at the Federal High Court Abuja, a surprising incident unfolded when Gambaryan collapsed before proceedings could continue.

Instead of stepping forward to the dock as expected, he remained seated at the back. When asked about his whereabouts by Justice Nwite, one of his defense lawyers guided him towards the dock but Gambaryan slumped on the way and had to be seated in the front row.

His lawyer, Mark Mordi (SAN), informed the court that Gambaryan was unwell and had submitted a written application notifying them of his condition.

The court proceedings were delayed today as Gambaryan, who was resting on the arm of his chair, was not present for his arraignment in a tax evasion case brought by the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

His colleague, Nadeem Anjarwalla, is also implicated in the case and is currently evading authorities. The NIGERIA NEWS 247 has reported that their Crypto-exchange firm, Binance Holdings Limited, is also involved in the charges.

Justice Nwite had previously denied Gambaryan’s bail request due to concerns about him being a flight risk, similar to Anjarwalla. The charges against them include money laundering and terrorism financing allegations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Currently, Gambaryan is held at Kuje Correctional Centre.
