DSS and Nigerian Army Rescue Catholic Priest Abducted by Boko Haram
The Department of State Services (DSS), working alongside the Nigerian Army, has successfully rescued Reverend Father Alphonsus Afina, a Catholic priest who was recently kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents. The rescue operation took place in one of northeastern Nigeria’s conflict-ridden areas where the terrorist group has been active for years.
Father Afina’s abduction had raised alarm among religious communities and human rights groups both nationally and internationally. The priest, known for his devoted service, was abducted during a parish visit when insurgents launched an attack. His safe recovery marks a significant boost to the morale of security forces and the local population, highlighting the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and religious freedoms.
Authorities have confirmed that Father Afina is currently safe and receiving medical care. The DSS and Nigerian Army remain engaged in ongoing efforts to track down and neutralize remaining Boko Haram militants in the region to prevent further attacks and kidnappings.
This successful rescue underscores the urgent need for continued cooperation among security agencies to eradicate the insurgency and restore lasting peace in northeastern Nigeria.
