The Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified the reason behind its personnel’s visit to the office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in Abuja.
On Monday, NIGERIA NEWS 247 reported that DSS operatives visited SERAP’s Abuja office, allegedly seeking to meet with the group’s directors.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the DSS disputed SERAP’s portrayal of the event, stating that two unarmed operatives were conducting a lawful routine investigation, not an unlawful raid.
“The DSS has received numerous inquiries regarding the supposed unlawful invasion of SERAP offices in Abuja and Lagos. This narrative is misleading,” the statement read. “For the record, two unarmed Service operatives were conducting a lawful investigation at the SERAP office in Abuja, which has been misrepresented as harassment and intimidation.”
The DSS emphasized that such official inquiries are standard procedure and do not constitute illegal activities or raids. The agency also called for public cooperation in ensuring national security and urged citizens to dismiss the misleading reports.
The DSS reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism in carrying out its duties.
