Eid-ul-Mawlid: Nigerian govt declares Friday public holiday

The Federal Government has declared that Friday, September 5, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday in celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, which commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

This announcement was made in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

In the statement, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed heartfelt greetings to Muslims both in Nigeria and around the globe. He encouraged the Muslim community to adopt the Prophet’s qualities of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion, emphasizing that these principles are essential for fostering a united and progressive society.

“The observance of Eid-ul-Mawlid provides us with another chance to reinforce our bonds of brotherhood, encourage peaceful coexistence, and embrace the Prophet’s teachings on mutual respect and altruism,” the statement attributed to Tunji-Ojo noted.
