#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria: Benue Sees Tight Security and Empty Streets on Protest Day
Security personnel have been deployed to strategic locations in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, as the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest commences nationwide.
State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia had previously assured that various groups, including youths, market women, traders, organized labor, and other civil society organizations, would not participate in the hunger protest.
Our correspondent observed a significant police presence in key areas of the state capital, particularly in Wurukum, a region known for hoodlum activity.
Shops, gas stations, and banks in the area remained closed, anticipating potential unrest.
The motor parks had few travelers, and the usually busy Makurdi-Lafia road was relatively empty.
Despite the situation, normal business activities continued in other parts of the state capital, with offices remaining open. The towns of Gboko and Otukpo also reported calm, with regular activities proceeding without incidents.
