#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria: Jigawa Govt imposes 24-hour curfew
On Friday, Umar Namadi, the Governor of Jigawa State, instituted a round-the-clock curfew due to increased violence coinciding with the initial day of nationwide protests.
In a broadcast to the public, he expressed his regret over the situation in the state. Nevertheless, he permitted a brief relaxation of the curfew for two and a half hours on Friday to allow residents to participate in Juma prayers at mosques. The governor emphasized that this 24-hour curfew was necessary to restore peace and stability in the area.
On Friday, the curfew will be eased from noon until 2:30 p.m. to enable individuals to participate in Friday prayers at the mosque.
The recent shift from a peaceful demonstration to one marked by violence, destruction, and looting is completely unacceptable and contradicts our cultural values.
We will not permit this behavior to persist unchecked. In collaboration with security forces, we will closely monitor the circumstances and implement necessary measures to protect the lives and property of our citizens from troublemakers and criminals throughout the state, stated Namadi.
