#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria: Police Fire Tear Gas at Protesters in Bauchi
On Thursday, the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations in Bauchi State and Abuja encountered major interruptions when police used tear gas to break up the crowds.
In Bauchi, protesters gathered outside the Emir of Bauchi’s palace, seeking an audience with him to address their concerns.
They encountered a police blockade. Despite their determination to meet with the Emir, law enforcement resorted to using tear gas to disperse the crowd.
In a similar event, Nigeria Police Force (NPF) personnel discharged tear gas at demonstrators near the federal secretariat in Abuja, the capital city. These protesters were participating in a nationwide movement against economic struggles and rising inflation.
According to NIGERIA NEWS 247, Nigerians initiated these protests, referred to as 10 days of rage, with the hashtag #EndBadGovernance gaining traction on social media platforms.
The demonstrations aim to highlight the escalating economic difficulties faced by citizens and call for urgent government intervention.
A heavy police presence has been observed across the country as many streets have become deserted due to security measures.
Authorities have deployed substantial numbers of security forces to avert potential violence and maintain order. In Abuja, there was a notable assembly of protesters before police took action.
Officials have encouraged demonstrators to conduct themselves peacefully and affirmed their right to assemble without disruption.
Nonetheless, the deployment of tear gas and other aggressive tactics has sparked concerns regarding the government’s method of managing these protests.
