EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest in Yenagoa

Residents in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, continued their #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest on Friday, marking the second day of demonstrations against poor governance and economic struggles.

The rally commenced at 7 am on August 2, 2024, as part of a nationwide movement. In contrast to the previous day’s events where protesters gathered in various locations to express their frustrations, Friday’s demonstration saw participants unite at the Old Airport Junction.

They sang and danced while many held signs highlighting the challenges faced by Nigerians. Our reporter noted that most shops in the state capital were open for business on this day, unlike the day before.

Security personnel were observed conducting surveillance in key areas. Some demonstrators, including former Minister of Youths and Sports Solomon Dalung, told our reporter that they plan to persist with the protests until the Federal Government responds to their demands.

Dalung remarked, I am heading to the protest site. Sadly, the government does not seem to grasp the severity of the challenges facing Nigerians.

We aimed to avoid unrest by providing them (the government) with a 40-day notice prior to the protests. Instead of tackling the issues driving these protests, the government has employed various strategies to suppress them; however, Nigerians stood firm and participated in significant numbers.

The protest achieved over 70 percent success on its first day based on nationwide participation levels. Therefore, we will continue our demonstrations, and it is incumbent upon the government to take action because it is meant to serve the people.
