Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, announced that security forces have obtained information regarding a Senator who is allegedly backing the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria demonstrations against the government.

He made this remark during a press conference after a security meeting with leaders of various security organizations in Abuja on Thursday.

According to NIGERIA NEWS 247, the protests commenced today in Abuja and other regions across the nation despite appeals from government officials urging citizens to avoid participating.

Wike mentioned that this Senator would be summoned for questioning by appropriate authorities at an appropriate time and noted that he had brought security personnel along to provide food for the demonstrators.

We have received information indicating that a senator arranged for certain security agencies to assist in delivering food to the protesters.

This act can be seen as sponsorship—essentially, a senator supplying food to demonstrators. Eventually, the security agencies will summon the senator to explain this support for actions opposing the current government, he stated.

The minister reiterated his appeal for protesters to adhere to the court’s directive confining them to Moshood Abiola National Stadium, highlighting the violence and fatalities that took place elsewhere in the country on the initial day of protests.

He revealed that the security forces had received information indicating that troublemakers intended to hijack the protest tomorrow with the aim of vandalizing property.

However, he assured that security personnel would prevent this from happening. He emphasized the importance of operating within a democratic framework and adhering to the rule of law.

Furthermore, he acknowledged that protesting is a right, allowing citizens to voice their concerns for government action on various issues.

Respecting the rule of law includes following court directives. He referenced today’s events when certain individuals attempted to enter Eagle Square; while those miscreants did not achieve their goals, intelligence suggests they plan to cause destruction tomorrow, potentially resulting in casualties.

The security forces will not permit such actions. He urged all protesters to gather at MKO Abiola Stadium for their demonstration, as mandated by the court.
